Listen to the Holy Spirit of God David Field June 18, 2010
Some of my articles written are out of normality for most Christians. So out of the ordinary that it strikes fear in many, and takes others out of their comfort zone. But I tell the reader to not take my word for anything, without confirmation from the Holy Spirit personally. So what good is any of this if you don’t know how to listen to God?
In search of the truth, most Christians will go to their bibles because this is what they have been taught by their pastors. This teaches people to rely on their own mental understanding of a book, or the understanding of another man, their preacher. In some cases it takes a person from church to church in search of the message that suits him best. Some preachers are saying, “Don’t take my word for it, check it out in the bible”. Then they go about trying to tell you how to read it, and what it says. Even your bible doesn’t teach this doctrine. The bible directs you to God, above the reading of the scriptures. All the different denominational Christian churches are claiming that they are bible-believing churches. They even go so far as to say that they base their entire faith in the bible, calling it the “Word of God”.
It is the grieving of the Holy Spirit to place the bible above God. Any church or any preacher that proclaims this statement, “The bible is the true measure against which all things are tested”, or anything to that effect, is teaching a false doctrine. And incidentally, I have yet to find a church that will NOT make this claim. But this doctrine cannot be found in the bible. The bible is not wholly the Word of God. The bible is part of, or some of the words of God. Nowhere in the bible is “the word of God” defined as “the holy bible”. Jesus was always called the Word, meaning the Word of God, in the bible. The false doctrine of trusting entirely on the bible is born out of the NOT KNOWING, and the not trusting in the Holy Spirit of God.
It is being taught that the measure of your faithfulness is how much you read your bible. And many Christians take pride in how worn and marked their bibles are.
I am not against the reading of scripture; I am pointing out the placing of the bible above true communion with God himself. The reading of the bible is an example of human works. There is nothing wrong with works as long as it is not put above trust in God. This is where God’s servant Job failed. Job trusted in his own works above God. God straighten him out in this area, and it was a very painful experience for Job.
The teaching that is ignored is how to go to the true source of knowledge. It is not being taught how to listen to the voice of God. Preachers are teaching that in the reading of your bible, the Holy Spirit speaks to you, giving you his interpretation. Tell my why are their so many denominations of churches, with vastly differing theologies then? Here is the truth. You cannot listen to God while you are disposed to the mental, or fleshly absorption of the written word on the page. Stop and listen from time to time at least. Direct your focus to Him. Sit and wait on the Lord. And best to shut your brain off; relax, it’s not that hard. Trust the fact that when you truly seek God, then God is what you will receive. This is the secret of how to hear God speak, simply stop and listen.
Anyone can hear God, and God will speak to anyone who will listen. You do not need a college degree, or a doctorate in theology, and you do not need to be a church leader to hear God. With God, everyone is equal. Jesus said come to me as a little child. That means don’t come to him with your preconceived theology, and your pride of previous learning. Come to him empty and open for his teachings. Do not put what you hear from him through your own filters; as in “but my preacher said”, or “but the apostle Paul said”… ah ah ah, quiet. God would say, I stand before you, and you place your understanding of your bible between us? You would listen to that over me? Have faith in me. Do not be afraid. Drop your defenses against me.
Again, don’t take my word for it; go to God, the source of all knowledge. I wanted to put bible scripture following this to back up my claims, but hey, you people already know your bibles.
