The True Nature of Jesus David Field June 13, 2010
Many Christians today subscribe to the idea of Jesus as a passive lamb; turn the other cheek; love thy neighbor as thy self, etc. Christians believe this is the way they are to behave. Judge nothing, and no one; do not be “an accuser of the brethren”, always be nice and gentle. But was this Jesus’ only side? What exactly was his true nature?
Jesus came firstly to offer salvation to all those that would accept, then to live an exemplary life, and also to repeat the words of God the Father, and to set the record straight. Jesus had a purposeful agenda with the world, the oppressed, and another group in particular, the Pharisees.
God passed down his law to Moses, and it was complete. No one was to add to, or take away from God’s law. The Pharisees added to the Law of Moses claiming that they sat in the seat of Moses, holding his authority. This is called the oral law, or the rabbinic code. They believed themselves to possess authority to amend God’s law given to Moses. This was blasphemy to God. Moses only wrote by authority of Yahweh. These men were making up their own rules, mostly in the effort to establish themselves as a higher authority.
Jesus was a real troublemaker, and was considered a rebel by the Jewish religious establishment. Jesus was not ordained by the religious leaders, nor was he trained by them. He did not come up through their ranks or their establishment, and therefore held no earthly authority. I am drawing a parallel here to the religious establishment of today; the ordination of preachers, and the Christian colleges that give a man the right to be called a pastor. Because Christians today cannot hear the voice of the Lord, they must rely on earthy documentation from the religious establishment to substantiate leadership capabilities. This same religious spirit exists today in the churches as it was in Jesus day on earth. Jesus went to extra lengths to upset this religious establishment.
Jesus very first miracle was the turning water into wine, and it was fermented by the way, for all you Pharisees. Look it up in the Greek, or Aramaic dictionary. Jesus instructed the servants to fill the wash pots to the top with water. These pots were used for the ritual washing of hands; one of the oral laws added by the Pharisees. No proper Jew would drink from these pots. The servants obeyed Jesus instructions, and served the wine first to the head of the house, but I’ll bet he found out later where the wine came from, and may have been upset.
John 2 1And the third day there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee; and the mother of Jesus was there: 2And both Jesus was called, and his disciples, to the marriage. 3And when they wanted wine, the mother of Jesus saith unto him, They have no wine. 4Jesus saith unto her,Woman, what have I to do with thee? mine hour is not yet come. 5His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever he saith unto you, doit. 6And there were set there six waterpots of stone, after the manner of the purifying of the Jews, containing two or three firkins apiece. 7Jesus saith unto them,Fill the waterpots with water. And they filled them up to the brim. 8And he saith unto them,Draw out now, and bear unto the governor of the feast. And they bareit. 9When the ruler of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and knew not whence it was: (but the servants which drew the water knew;) the governor of the feast called the bridegroom, 10And saith unto him, Every man at the beginning doth set forth good wine; and when men have well drunk, then that which is worse:but thou hast kept the good wine until now.
If Jesus were trying to stay low key, why would he send the leper to the priests? Jesus broke another rabbinic law by touching a leper.
Matthew 8 2And, behold, there came a leper and worshipped him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean. 3And Jesus put forth his hand, and touched him, saying,I will; be thou clean. And immediately his leprosy was cleansed. 4And Jesus saith unto him,See thou tell no man; but go thy way, shew thyself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them.
In another miracle, Jesus mixed dirt with spit in the healing of a blind man on the Sabbath. This made mud, which was considered mortar; and on the Sabbath! The making of mortar on the Sabbath was strictly forbidden by rabbinic code. Jesus could have performed this miracle by any means he wished. The fact that he chose this method displays a point he was making. And he mixed the mud in the miracle to make sure that this news would spread to the Pharisees. Jesus wanted them to know that he was in their face. I can hear them now, “he did what! How dare this son of a carpenter circumvent our authority!”
The holy religious leaders of Jesus’ day would never defile themselves by coming near the sinners, much less to dine with them.
Matthew 9 10And it came to pass, as Jesus sat at meat in the house, behold, many publicans and sinners came and sat down with him and his disciples. 11And when the Pharisees sawit, they said unto his disciples, Why eateth your Master with publicans and sinners? 12But when Jesus heardthat,he said unto them,They that be whole need not a physician, but they that are sick. 13But go ye and learn whatthatmeaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.
This act of Jesus and his apostles seems to be in contrast from the religious teachings of today of Paul’s writings. Today many Christians will not drink wine because it may offend someone. Jesus purposefully offended the holier than thou’s. He stood right in front of them picking corn on the Sabbath, which was strictly forbidden; harvesting on the Sabbath. Who are you going to believe, Jesus or Paul? Why does religion today put Paul’s teachings up above the Lord Jesus Christ? Are you a religious person and offended by what I say here? Check you motives. This is all Jesus. If you don’t understand Paul’s teachings, where they contradict Jesus himself, maybe you should stick to reading the red letters, and the gospels only.
Romans 14:21 It isgood neither to eat flesh, nor to drink wine, norany thingwhereby thy brother stumbleth, or is offended, or is made weak.
Matthew 12 1At that time Jesus went on the sabbath day through the corn; and his disciples were an hungred, and began to pluck the ears of corn, and to eat. 2But when the Pharisees sawit, they said unto him, Behold, thy disciples do that which is not lawful to do upon the sabbath day.
And no need to mention the incident when Jesus made a whip, went into the temple, knocking over the moneychanger’s tables, and physically threw those traders out to the curb. Jesus was firm against the high-and-mighty, and the oppressors, but notice whom to those he showed compassion, a prostitute, and other outcasts of society.
Matthew 21 12And Jesus went into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves, 13And said unto them,It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves. 14And the blind and the lame came to him in the temple; and he healed them. 15And when the chief priests and scribes saw the wonderful things that he did, and the children crying in the temple, and saying, Hosanna to the Son of David; they were sore displeased,
23And when he was come into the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came unto him as he was teaching, and said, By what authority doest thou these things? and who gave thee this authority? 24And Jesus answered and said unto them,I also will ask you one thing, which if ye tell me, I in like wise will tell you by what authority I do these things. 25The baptism of John, whence was it? from heaven, or of men?And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven; he will say unto us, Why did ye not then believe him? 26But if we shall say, Of men; we fear the people; for all hold John as a prophet. 27And they answered Jesus, and said, We cannot tell. And he said unto them,Neither tell I you by what authority I do these things.
43Therefore say I unto you, The kingdom of God shall be taken from you, and given to a nation bringing forth the fruits thereof. 44And whosoever shall fall on this stone shall be broken: but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder. 45And when the chief priests and Pharisees had heard his parables, they perceived that he spake of them. And no need to mention the incident when he made a whip and went into the temple, knocked over the moneychanger’s table, and physically threw those traders out to the curb. Jesus was firm with the high-and-mighty, the oppressors, but notice to those he showed compassion, a prostitute, and other outcasts of society.
You say you are a Christian, meaning you are a follower of Christ, and His ways. You’ll say you cannot measure up to Jesus, but have you made the slightest effort to move in his direction? If not your words are just empty meaningless hot air.
Today, Christians claim the name of Christ, but lack the nerve to follow his example and are actually part of the establishment he spoke against. Wake up and come out of Babylon, time is short. Stop following the wolf in sheep’s clothing behind your pulpit and follow the real Jesus. I know you would tell me your preacher is genuine. He thinks he is too. And don’t tell me about the Apostle Paul’s teachings where they are opposed to Jesus’ words. Man’s interpretation of Pauls teachings do not supercede the words of God.
The example of Jesus life tells me that if you are a modern day Pharisee, I should be in your face. So don’t tell me I am an “accuser of the brethren”. That is an accusation in itself. Are you really a brethren when you are propagating traditions of men? “By the same measure you judge, you shall be judged”, means you had better make sure you can also be judged by your accusations. It does not mean not to judge. Before I call out wrongs in others I would want to make sure I don’t have a similar log in my own eye.
Jesus certainly did judge evil, and the world hated him for it; enough to kill him. I believe if he walked the face of the earth today, he would suffer the same fate as he did in his day here.
Matthew 10 34Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. 35For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law. Matthew 15 1Then came to Jesus scribes and Pharisees, which were of Jerusalem, saying, 2Why do thy disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? for they wash not their hands when they eat bread. 3But he answered and said unto them,Why do ye also transgress the commandment of God by your tradition? 4For God commanded, saying, Honour thy father and mother: and, He that curseth father or mother, let him die the death. 5But ye say, Whosoever shall say tohisfather orhismother,It isa gift, by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me; 6And honour not his father or his mother,he shall be free. Thus have ye made the commandment of God of none effect by your tradition. 7Yehypocrites, well did Esaias prophesy of you, saying, 8This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me withtheirlips; but their heart is far from me. 9But in vain they do worship me, teachingfordoctrines the commandments of men. 10And he called the multitude, and said unto them,Hear, and understand: 11Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man; but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man. 12Then came his disciples, and said unto him, Knowest thou that the Pharisees were offended, after they heard this saying? 13But he answered and said,Every plant, which my heavenly Father hath not planted, shall be rooted up. 14Let them alone: they be blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch. 15Then answered Peter and said unto him, Declare unto us this parable. 16And Jesus said,Are ye also yet without understanding? 17Do not ye yet understand, that whatsoever entereth in at the mouth goeth into the belly, and is cast out into the draught? 18But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man. 19For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies: 20These arethe thingswhich defile a man: but to eat with unwashen hands defileth not a man.
Matthew 19:30 But manythat arefirst shall be last; and the lastshall befirst.
Matthew 22:29 Jesus answered and said unto them,Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God.
Matthew 23 1Then spake Jesus to the multitude, and to his disciples, 2Saying,The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses' seat: 3All therefore whatsoever they bid you observe, thatobserve and do; but do not ye after their works: for they say, and do not. 4For they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and laythemon men's shoulders; but theythemselveswill not move them with one of their fingers. 5But all their works they do for to be seen of men: they make broad their phylacteries, and enlarge the borders of their garments, 6And love the uppermost rooms at feasts, and the chief seats in the synagogues, 7And greetings in the markets, and to be called of men, Rabbi, Rabbi. 8But be not ye called Rabbi: for one is your Master, evenChrist; and all ye are brethren. 9And call nomanyour father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven. 10Neither be ye called masters: for one is your Master, evenChrist. 11But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant. 12And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted. 13But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: for ye neither go inyourselves, neither suffer ye them that are entering to go in. 14Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye devour widows' houses, and for a pretence make long prayer: therefore ye shall receive the greater damnation. 15Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye compass sea and land to make one proselyte, and when he is made, ye make him twofold more the child of hell than yourselves. 16Woe unto you, yeblind guides, which say, Whosoever shall swear by the temple, it is nothing; but whosoever shall swear by the gold of the temple, he is a debtor! 17Yefools and blind: for whether is greater, the gold, or the temple that sanctifieth the gold? 18And, Whosoever shall swear by the altar, it is nothing; but whosoever sweareth by the gift that is upon it, he is guilty. 19Yefools and blind: for whetherisgreater, the gift, or the altar that sanctifieth the gift? 20Whoso therefore shall swear by the altar, sweareth by it, and by all things thereon. 21And whoso shall swear by the temple, sweareth by it, and by him that dwelleth therein. 22And he that shall swear by heaven, sweareth by the throne of God, and by him that sitteth thereon. 23Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightiermattersof the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone. 24Yeblind guides, which strain at a gnat, and swallow a camel. 25Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye make clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and excess. 26Thoublind Pharisee, cleanse first thatwhich iswithin the cup and platter, that the outside of them may be clean also. 27Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of deadmen'sbones, and of all uncleanness. 28Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity. 29Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because ye build the tombs of the prophets, and garnish the sepulchres of the righteous, 30And say, If we had been in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets. 31Wherefore ye be witnesses unto yourselves, that ye are the children of them which killed the prophets. 32Fill ye up then the measure of your fathers. 33Yeserpents,yegeneration of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell? 34Wherefore, behold, I send unto you prophets, and wise men, and scribes: andsomeof them ye shall kill and crucify; andsomeof them shall ye scourge in your synagogues, and persecutethemfrom city to city: 35That upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel unto the blood of Zacharias son of Barachias, whom ye slew between the temple and the altar. 36Verily I say unto you, All these things shall come upon this generation. 37O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thouthat killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens underherwings, and ye would not! 38Behold, your house is left unto you desolate. 39For I say unto you, Ye shall not see me henceforth, till ye shall say, Blessedishe that cometh in the name of the Lord.
Matthew 10:32 Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven.
